Dischidia Ovata Watermelon

The Dischidia is a part of the Milkweed family and native to tropical areas of China and India. This particular variety "ovata" gets it's name from the oval egg shaped leaves, and the nickname watermelon due to the pattern looking like a watermelon rind! In the wild ants live inside the balloon-like organs produced by the plant. They bring in nutrients which fend off predatory insects. Dischidia can be a lovely plant to grow in the home, they add a lovely brightness to any room.

How to care for your dischidia

Water: Water once the top soil feels dry. Any soft or wrinkled leaves means the plant is thirsty.

Light: Keep in indirect light, these plants grow wild in low light situations below a thick rain forest canopy.

Humidity: They require high humidity. Mist the plant every day.

Temperature: They like warmth, about 20 degrees C.
