Calathea Care Guide - House of Kojo

Calathea Care Guide

Calatheas are the gemstones of houseplants. These captivating beauties are known to be a bit fussy, but with the right care, they can flourish in your home.

Below, we've listed a few tips to help you care for your calathea. 🌿

Humidity

Calathea's like a warm humid environment and won't thrive if there are any drafts or sudden changes in temperature. If you find that the leaves on your Calathea begin to curl or get brown spots, you can mist them with lukewarm filtered water.

Lighting

Like many houseplants, they prefer bright, indirect light. It's best to avoid direct sunlight as this can scorch their leaves. They are well-suited for medium to low light conditions.

Heat

Calathea plants adore warm, humid surroundings. They're picky about drafts and abrupt temperature changes. If you spot curled or brown-spotted leaves, treat them to a gentle misting with lukewarm filtered water.

Watering

When it comes to watering your calathea, bottom watering is key. Use a saucer and ensure the pot can sit in it to let the plant absorb the right amount of water. It's important to not let your plant be submerged in excess water, as this can spell trouble, potentially leading to root rot.

Feeding

Feed your Calathea during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, diluted, liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks.

With the right care, your calathea can be a stunning addition to your indoor plant collection, showcasing its intricate patterns and vibrant foliage!
