How often should I water my alocasia?

The rule of thumb when watering a philodendron is typically to water when the top 1 inch of soil feel dry to the touch, however this can depend on factors such as how much light the philodendron is getting, the temperature of your home and how well your pot drains. Try to keep the soil evenly moist at all times but not soggy. 

How much light does my alocasia need?

Philodendron love bright indirect sunlight, they usually like to be near a south or east facing window. Put them in a bright spot away from direct light, in their natural habitat they would be under the rain forest canopy. 

How much humidity does my alocasia need?

As a tropical plant philodendrons appreciate humid air throughout the year. This can be encouraged by placing the philodendron on a pebble tray or by giving the leaves a mist frequently. 

How do I propagate my alocasia?

It's best to propagate your philodendron in the Spring, you'll get best success from a cutting with two nodes. You can place your cutting directly into water or soil. If using water change this frequently, if using soil keep it moist and in plenty of bright indirect sun. 

Why are my alocasias leaves yellow?

Yellowing leaves is usually down to a watering issue, it may be from over watering, if you are only watering every 7-10 days check that your pot has sufficient drainage as they don't like to sit in very wet soil, this can lead to problems with root rot. 

Why does my alocasia have brown spots?

Curled leaves or brown edges can be an indicator your philodendron is getting too much light, make sure it is in bright indirect light, any direct sun can easily scorch the leaves. 

Why does my alocasia have brown leaf tips?

This is usually a sign of too little humidity, boost your humidity levels to keep your philodendron happy. 

Are alocasia toxic to cats and dogs?

Yes philodendron is toxic to animals.
